February 28, 2013 is the 14th International RSI Awareness Day – a day set aside each year to focus attention on repetitive strain injuries.

This year we are looking at progress made to regulate working conditions that lead to repetitive strain injury.

PSAC has been pushing for the federal program responsible for labour to establish an ergonomic regulation since 1995 to help reduce the incidence of repetitive strain injuries in federally-regulated workplaces.

The PSAC is calling on the government to suspend HRSDC’s Integrity Branch house calls and reverse harmful changes made to the Employment Insurance system.

Drastic government changes to EI legislation are hurting recipents, causing undue stress and putting EI workers at risk.

Prince George, BC– The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) are pleased to announce a new collective agreement has been ratified by both parties.

Prince George Airport Authority President and CEO John Gibson says “the PGAA and our local staff have a great working relationship and that is why we were able to get an agreement prior to the expiry of the existing agreement.”

PSAC members at Parks Canada have voted in favour of the tentative agreement reached Nov. 26, 2012.

The union negotiated two breakthroughs:

Emergency vigil to be held starting at 5PM today – Tuesday at Kitsilano Coast Guard Station. Speakers from BC Federation of Labour, Jericho Sailing Centre, MP Fin Donnelly and others to be confirmed later

The rally takes place at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 19 outside the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station in Vancouver – 1661 Whyte Avenue in Vanier Park [off Chestnut Street below the Burrard Street Bridge.]

Despite a huge outcry from British Columbians, the federal government still plans to close the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station, affecting the PSAC/UCTE members who work at the station and putting lives at risk in Vancouver's busy harbour.
