We are disappointed with the Supreme Court of Canada's judgment today.  The Supreme Court recognized that public service plan members made a significant contribution – 42.2 per cent or almost $12 billion – in paying down the national debt for all Canadians when the government appropriated the pension plan surplus.

On October 31, 2012, the Joint Learning Program (JLP) reached 2,000 workshops delivered. This represents over 40,000 participants from over 50 organizations, around 4,000 organizers, and 4,000 opportunities of facilitation.

The demand for JLP has been growing The last 1,000 workshops were delivered in 30 months between April 2010 and October 2012. In comparison the first 1,000 were delivered in 40 months between January 2007 and March 2010. 297 workshops have been delivered in the British Columbia Region.

PSAC received confirmation from the employer that it has no plans to implement a “pay in arrears” system in the federal government at this time.

Once again, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) has released a misleading report attacking the dedicated and hard working public sector employees of this country. The study claims that public sector absenteeism rates are costing Canadian taxpayers billions of dollars annually. This is false – sick leave cannot be cashed and is not a liability for the taxpayer.
