Remembering Howard Willems

PSAC members are mourning the loss of a colleague, friend and brother, with the passing of Brother Howard Willems Thursday afternoon.

Howard worked as an inspector with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for more than 30 years before retiring in early 2012. His involvement with PSAC spanned decades and included co-charing Local and Regional Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committees, and sitting on CFIA’s National OHS Policy Committee.

Take Action! Canada Post holding up pay equity payments

Refuses to implement Supreme Court Order

A year ago this coming November 17, the Supreme Court ordered Canada Post to implement a Canadian Human Rights Tribunal Order that it provide pay equity payments to thousands of employees and retirees who had been underpaid for decades.

This should have ended a 30 year battle for equity and justice.

But Canada Post is refusing to implement that order and is delaying payments to those who desperately need it.

PSAC and UEW call upon government to implement Cohen report, reverse cuts and planned changes to DFO Fish Habitat Management Program.

After 138 days of hearings, 179 witnesses, and a review of over 3 million pages of documents, the Commission of Inquiry into the Decline of Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River submitted its final report on October 29th 2012. The government tabled the report in the House of Commons on October 31st.

PSAC wants Bill C-45 opened up to public debate

Once again, the Conservative government is pushing through hundreds of pages of major legislative changes without consulting Canadians.

PSAC has major concerns with the latest budget implementation bill, C-45. Our concerns echo the criticism being expressed by the opposition parties, environmental, scientific and Aboriginal groups. We join the call for Bill C-45 to be split into parts and debated separately.

From October 11-12, 2012 your Bargaining Team went over the numerous demands you submitted for positive improvements to your collective agreement. This followed with a General Membership meeting held by your Local, UPCE 20095, on October 13, 2012, which included Janelle Ho-Shing, PSAC Negotiator.

We have served Notice to Bargain to Purolator Inc. on October 18, 2012. Dates for bargaining will soon be set. Once bargaining begins, your team plans to provide regular updates after each session.
