The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6, the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique Massacre, in which 14 women were singled out for their gender and murdered. It is often marked by vigils, discussions and other reflections on violence against women.

On September 29, 2011 the employer responded to a 3 day strike by locking out the workers. Please drop by and show your solidarity, or better yet join the VOLC picket support roster. Many thanks to Jennifer Ho, Co-Chair of the Vancouver Regional Women's Committee for this report.UBC student Rumana Monzur was reportedly attacked by her husband during a recent trip home to Dhaka, Bangladesh. She lost her eyesight and had her face badly injured.

Despite the gray weather PSAC BC launched the popular “Think Public!” summer campaign at Car Free Day on Commercial Drive in Vancouver last weekend. REVP Bob Jackson marched in the Langley City Parade, and had an opportunity to meet with MP Mark Warawa to talk about how the government’s plan to cut program spending will affect public public services and the workers that provide them in Langley.

The year has so-far been filled with several events and opportunities! Coming up from July 13-17 at the University of Victoria, there will be a Summer Institute for Union Women. The theme is "Putting Women in their Places...in our Union, in Politics and in our Communities".
