The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, formally opened the Canadian Coast Guard Kitsilano Base today, and announced that it will be expanded to include emergency environmental response and emergency response training.

It's time to raise the minimum wage! PSAC members joined with hundreds of people in Vancouver on the Canadian National Day of Action for a $15 Minimum Wage. British Columbia has the lowest minimum wage in Canada and this leaves full-time workers living thousands of dollars below the poverty line. We believe that work should lift you out of poverty, not keep you in it. It's time for the BC government to make a real increase the minimum wage so that nobody is left behind.

The PSAC BC Mainland Human Rights Committee would like to invite PSAC members and Locals to participate in a campaign to gather items to support our new neighbours arriving from Syria. The Human Rights Committee has partnered with the Immigrant Services Society of BC to join their Family Basket campaign. ISSBC is in need of household items, basic toiletries, grocery store voucher cards, and food.

Hunter Tootoo, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, officially announced today that the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station in Vancouver would be re-opened. “PSAC is happy to see the government listened to British Columbians and officially announced Kits Station’s reopening today,” said Bob Jackson, Public Service Alliance of Canada Regional Executive Vice-President for BC.
