Workplace problem solving

Staffing issues are one of the most important issues raised by employees, and we hear countless stories from our members who’ve experienced racism, sexism, ableism and discrimination during the hiring process.

This is the recording of a webinar delivered by PSAC BC providing a walk-through of the four-step framework for collective agreement article interpretation.  Facilitators examined sample articles from recently ratified collective agreements and asked: What entitlement or right does the Collective Agreement provision establish? Who has the right to this provision? What conditions need to be satisfied for the right to come into effect?

PSAC produces a wide variety of toolkits, booklets and resource guides for activists, Locals and Branches, and Regional Committees and Area Councils. This Labour Day we not only recognize workers’ essential contributions during the pandemic, but also commit ourselves to a plan to move Forward Together and come out of this crisis even stronger. 

One of the hallmarks of a healthy democracy is the ability of citizens to participate freely and actively in determining who they elect to govern and make decisions on their behalf. However until 1988, the Public Service Employment Act did not allow federal public sector workers to take part in political activities beyond simply casting their vote. In 1991 the Supreme Court of Canada upheld a Federal Court decision that struck down these restrictions and confirmed that restrictions on political activities should not apply to the vast majority of federal workers.

Grievance timelines are one of the most important elements of problem solving. To avoid running the risk of missing an important grievance milestone, we have prepared some grievance time line flowcharts for many of the bargaining units we have in BC. Last updated August 2019.
