Union jobs benefit everyone

Having a union on your side makes your job and your workplace safer and fairer.

Your employer pays you better and is more likely to provide benefits that help you balance work with life at home. Your health and ability to do your job become important, and your right to fair treatment gets enforced.  Unions make a difference both at work and in the quality of life you earn. We call that difference the union advantage.

In Canada, women have the right to control over their own bodies. Now, a Conservative MP's motion could put serious limits on women's reproductive rights.

MP Stephen Woodworth's motion M-312 calls for a special Parliamentary committee to review the definition of “human being” in the Criminal Code of Canada. If passed, the motion could undermine a woman's constitutional right to security of the person once she becomes pregnant.

BC Government workers across the province will hold a one day strike on Wednesday September 5.
 
Next week, approximately 27,000 BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU), Professional Employees Association (PEA) and Canadian Office & Professional Employees Union (COPE) Local 378 members who work for the BC government will go on strike in 153 communities and 1785 government worksites across B.C. The strike will last all day.
 

It’s up for discussion in BC – and many other places. Employers, supervisors, and workers in BC are invited to share their views on a discussion paper and proposed new OHS policies regarding workplace bullying and harassment, published by WorkSafeBC

BC employers, supervisors, and employees in all industries are asked to share comments in support for – or disagreement with – the new policy.

Effective Aug 17th Joanna Schultz is no longer the BC Regional Coordinator, she is leaving to take on new challenges as a small business person. Garry Fraser will be the Acting Regional Coordinator until Sept 30th or such time as a competition is held.
