Since 1992, December 3rd is marked as the International Day for Persons with Disabilities by the United Nations. This is a day to promote awareness on the issues faced by people living with disabilities.

Each year this international day of observance has a theme that addresses a priority for those living with a disability. This year’s theme is: "Together for a better world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development". In 2006, Statistics Canada reported that more than 2.6 million Canadians are living with a disability, which is 13% of Canada’s overall population.

On Nov. 24, the bargaining teams for Field (FI) and Regional Office (RO) Interviewers gave Statistics Canada an official notice to begin negotiations.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada opened negotiations with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency with an exchange of bargaining proposals between the parties on November 10, 2011.

On Wednesday Nov 23, 2011, Parks Canada came to the table with a revised set of proposals. The package contained all their outstanding issues - including their monetary package - but none of our member’s issues.

The FB bargaining team met with Treasury Board and CBSA representatives in Ottawa the week of November 14, 2011 to continue negotiations for a new contract.
