As Canadians, when we go to work every day, ride the train, fly in a plane, or enjoy our natural environment, how do we know we are safe and secure?

Because behind the scenes, public service workers across this country – like airline and train safety inspectors, accident inspectors, counter-terrorism specialists, flood forecasters and many others — make sure of it.  These workers - members of the Technical Services Group – have one important thing on their mind every day: the safety and security of all Canadians.

I attended the BC Fed Convention from November 24 – 28 2014. This was a very interesting convention in many ways. From a young worker perspective it was interesting to participate in the mock convention prior to the start of the convention. This provided an understanding of the convention procedures, especially relating to the resolutions as we were not to be voting on the recommendation of the committee as we do within the PSAC but on the resolution itself.

As a part of the Young Worker Committee, I was able to participate in our caucus meeting on November 26 in the morning. We discussed our resolutions that would be coming forward that day and there was debate amongst the group as to the resolution moving forward on the age definition of the young workers. When we sat as a committee to present our report, it was clear that the floor appeared divided on the issue with key unions supporting either side.

This is a call out to PSAC equity activists (Aboriginal Peoples, Racialized Workers, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Trans Members, and Members with Disabilities), Regional Women's Committee (RWC) members, and Young worker activists (30 or younger) to participate in the upcoming Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) National Bargaining Conference.

The CFIA National Bargaining Conference will take place January 26-28, 2015 at the Marriott Residence Inn, Ottawa.

The CLC young workers committee have decided to take action to increase young people's engagement during the next federal elections. The first step is a social media action on the 9th of December 2014. Here's what to do ...

Representatives from PSAC BC's two Young Worker Committees gathered in Vancouver on the last weekend of November to network, get some training on mobilization and recruitment, and to create a strategic plan for young workers in the Region.

The group also heard from A/REVP Jamey Mills, who got his start as a union activist as the Young Worker's Coordinator on the BC Regional Council, and from George Christou, the co-chair of the Vancouver & District Labour Council's Young Worker Committee, and participated in the BC Federation of Labour's 2014 Young Workers Mock C
A permanent reminder of the tragic events of Dec. 6, 1989, was unveiled Saturday at Holland Point Park, and the brother of one of the victims was there to see it, thanks to the efforts of PSAC's Victoria Regional Women's Committee.
